The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has announced that the PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline has been extended several times due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The last date for PAN-Aadhaar linking has been extended to 30th June 2023.
PAN-Aadhaar linking process:
The process of linking PAN with Aadhaar is simple and can be done in two ways – online and offline.
Online Process:
- Visit the Income Tax e-Filing portal.
- Click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option under the ‘Quick Links’ section.
- Enter your PAN, Aadhaar number, and name as per Aadhaar.
- Tick the checkbox to confirm that the Aadhaar number being submitted is correct.
- Click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ button to complete the process.
Offline Process:
- Download and fill in the ‘Annexure-I’ form from the Income Tax Department’s website.
- Attach a self-attested copy of your PAN and Aadhaar cards.
- Send the form and documents to the Income Tax Department’s CPC (Centralized Processing Centre) address.
Deadline:
The deadline for PAN-Aadhaar linking has been extended several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The current deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar is 30th June 2023. Failure to link PAN with Aadhaar by the deadline may result in a penalty or even deactivation of your PAN card.
How to check your PAN-Aadhaar linking status:
- Visit the Income Tax e-Filing portal.

- On the new page, click on the ‘Click Here’ button under the ‘Check Status of PAN-Aadhaar Linking’ section.
- Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number in the respective fields.
- Click on the ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’ button.
- Your PAN-Aadhaar linking status will be displayed on the screen.
If your PAN and Aadhaar are linked, the status will show as ‘Linked’. If they are not linked, the status will show as ‘Not Linked’. If you have submitted a linking request and it is under process, the status will show as ‘Under Process’.
It is important to note that the PAN-Aadhaar linking process may take a few days to reflect in the system. If you have linked your PAN with Aadhaar but the status is not updated, wait for a few days and check again.
